Pershing, John J (1860-1948). U.S. Army general who led the American Expeditionary Forces to victory over Germany in World War I. Pershing is the only American to be promoted in his own lifetime to General of the Armies, the highest possible rank in the army. Signed photo ("John J. Pershing") and inscribed ("To Congressman Wallace H. White Jr. / With very cordial regards"), black & white silver gelatin, 13½ x 11", n.p., "June 1922". The photo is likewise signed in pencil by the photographer -- along with the location at which the shot was taken, Washington -- in the lower margin. This rarely seen portrait of "Black Jack" is accompanied by a 1919, 7 x 9½" color Army of Occupation broadside titled "March on the Rhine" as well as a hand-painted 1929 McIntyre cover celebrating the 11th anniversary of the Armistice. With just a minor cover crease to the final item, this trio of Pershing memorabilia is in excellent condition. Estimated Value $600 - 800

Realized $360
