Rockefeller, John D (1837-1937). One of the most prominent businessman in U.S. history. In 1870, Rockefeller organized the Standard Oil Company and in the course of only 15 years controlled 90% of U.S. refineries and pipelines. With the passing of the Sherman Antitrust Act, Standard Oil was forcibly dissolved for restraint of trade after near historic levels of litigation. Later, focusing on philanthropy, Rockefeller donated more than half a billion dollars to various educational, religious, and scientific causes. Among his activities, he funded the establishment of the University of Chicago and the Rockefeller Institute for Medical Research.

Signed vintage original photo ("John D. Rockefeller"), in lead pencil, black & white, 8" x 10", n.p., n.d. Rockefeller looks dapper in a linen suit on the golf course, very much in his later years. Handsomely presented, matted and framed to 16 x 24" in gilt wood frame with a biographical plate below photo. Estimated Value $800 - 900

Realized $480
