Lot 101

Harley-Davidson, William S. Harley and Arthur Davidson Signatures, Rare. Founders of the celebrated motorcycle manufacturer in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1903. William S. Harley and his childhood friend, Arthur Davidson, both in their young twenties, worked together to create their first motorized bicycle. Shortly thereafter, a factory was built and models produced with improvements sufficient to garner a U.S. Government contract for 15,000 units for combat use during World War I. By 1920, Harley-Davidson was the leading manufacturer of motorcycles worldwide, one of only two motorcycle manufacturers to survive the Depression, rebounding with the manufacture of nearly 100,000 units during WWII.

Two extremely scarce cut signatures of the founders, William S. Harley (1880-1943) and Arthur Davidson (1881-1950) beautifully presented in a matted and framed museum grade display boasting their current logo, measuring 12 x 14½", with both signatures in fountain pen. Excellent. Estimated Value $1,500 - 2,000

Realized $1,313
