Roosevelt, Franklin D (1882-1945). Document signed ("Franklin D. Roosevelt"), as President, 20 x 24", Washington, D.C., November 16, 1936. Being his selection of Joseph E. Davies as the second ambassador to Russia ("The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics"). Co-signed by Acting Secretary of State, R. Walton Moore (1859-1941), and stamped with the Presidential Seal. Frame appears to be original. Some scattered foxing and toning, but otherwise quite fine.

Mr. Davies served two years and then was immediately appointed ambassador to Belgium and Luxembourg. A powerhouse corporate attorney and diplomat, Davies also enjoyed the highest level of political society in Washington, D.C., with his marriage to Post cereal heiress, Marjorie Merriweather Post. In fact, the couple frequently entertained at their Georgetown residence. Estimated Value $700 - 900
