Lot 947

1916 Liberty Standing 25C NGC MS63. NGC graded MS-63. Lovely blue and golden toning on both sides. The head is almost full. Popular key date. Only 52,000 struck all of which were released with a much larger batch of 1917 Type I quarters. Hence these tended to be overlooked by the public, who promptly saved the 1917 quarters as the first of their kind. The 1916 quarters have a slightly different shape to Liberty's gown just above the date, and these can be identified even if the date is worn smooth. Finding a choice example like this requires by patience and numismatic fortitude. Pop 54; 95 finer at NGC. Estimated Value $15,000 - 16,000
