[Football]. 1925 College Football Photographs. Lot of two photographs of the Waynesburg College Football Squad in 1925. Black and white photographs, 9½ x 8¼", Waynesburg, Pennsylvania, 1925. Matted (original mats) to an overall size of 13¼ x 11¾", with handwritten identification of the players at bottom edge of mat. One photograph depicts the whole team, the second, the starting line-up. Mat edges are worn and photos show minor mat burn. Overall, very good condition.
The Waynesburg Yellow Jackets played their first game in 1895, participated in the first ever televised football game (against Fordham in 1939) and continue to be a presence in Pennsylvania athletics. Alas, the 1925 squad was notable only for the square-jawed handsomeness of its players and the fabulous team photographs we are fortunate enough to offer here. A reminder of the days when helmets were leather and turf was natural.
