Callas, Maria (1923-1977) Operatic soprano who revived the classic coloratura roles with her lyrical and dramatic versatility. Wildly popular, she was also known for her volatile temper.

Signature ("Maria Meneghini Callas"). Signed Time Magazine cover. Inscribed "Cordially" in blue ink across the bottom of the portrait. There are some very small creases at the left of the cover but the signature and portrait are not affected. This cover has been matted to 11 x 14" and is in very good condition.

Issued for October 29, 1956, on the occasion of Ms. Callas' first performance at the Metropolitan Opera. This striking portrait captures the strength and drama of Ms. Callas' performances, yet a sense of vulnerability is also suggested.
Estimated Value $300 - 400.
