Cocteau, Jean (1889-1963). French novelist, poet, librettist, actor, film director and painter. A true visual artist, Cocteau's works show the distinct influence of surrealism, Catholicism and opium use.

Autograph Letter Signed ("Jee Cocteau"). In French. One page, octavo, St.-Jean Cap Ferrat (postmark), October 9, 1954. To Louis Bonalumi. Accompanied by the original transmittal envelope. One horizontal mailing fold. In fine to very fine condition.

Writing from the villa of Madame Weisweiller, Cocteau discusses the preparation of his complete works for publication, provided however, that it be produced on his own terms. In full: "Very dear Bonelumi, I have no news from Orengo. The flying saucers are causing a lot of trouble. If Plon (refuses?) our complete works, we'll publish them elsewhere. (From Plon I haven't the slightest news, either.) I embrace you, Jee Cocteau".
Estimated Value $350 - 450.
