Lot 1276

Brooch, Unusual and Scarce, in Black Composition. Circa late 19th century. Fashioned of a hard black substance somewhat reminiscent of early bakelite, this brooch is comprised of two assembled pieces. The head of a woman appears at the right, her shoulders seen from the back, rests upon a wreath of leaves and berries. The woman is fairly young with a high coiffure wreathed with flowers. Pin and catch at back. Height: 53 mm. Brooch is pristine and thus a rare survival for costume jewelry of these early manmade materials.
Estimated Value $150 - 200.
