Lot 414

Torah Stave (Roller). Probably Mid-20th Century. Carved bone with Stars of David and decorated with a small crown. Also known as Etz Chaim, from the Hebrew for "tree of life." The carved bone finial at the top of this stave, and the wooden bottom handle are used to handle the Torah scroll without having to touch it. The circular wooden discs rest against the rolled scroll, keeping it in place. Bone finial is 5 ½" tall; round wooden base is 5 ¾" diameter. Bone is in excellent condition with a few minor cracks at the bottom where it is mounted on a wooden core. Separate wooden base is good, with some scattered scratches. Attractive.
Estimated Value $300 - 500.
