Pujol, Albert De. Portrait of a Scholar. Accomplished French painter of the 19th Century, Pujol (1786-1861) was known for his sketches and detailed portrait work. Here a portrait of an old man 9" x 9", oil on board in excellent condition, signed by artist in lower right as A. De Pujol, boasting stunning detail in the face and hair combined with amazing play of both dark and light, the portrait likely a Jewish scholar. Also based on partial fragment of a paper label on verso, the gilt wood frame is most definitely antique, likely from the mid-1800s showing evidence of wear and stress, but all adding up to the overall appeal of this near 175 year old painting.
Estimated Value $800 - 1,200.
