[Mallin, Harry] 1921 Middleweight Gold Medal (1892-1969) Harry Mallin was a British boxer, the first man to successfully defend an Olympic boxing title. Mallin was one of the dominant middleweight fighters of his generation. In addition to his Olympic triumphs, he won five British amateur titles and was undefeated in over 300 fights. He was also world champion in the middleweight class between 1920 and 1928. He never lost an amateur bout and never turned professional. He won the gold medal, presented here in the middleweight division, defeating Canadian boxer Georges Prud'Homme in the final. In 1924 he went on to win another gold in the same weight class in boxing at the 1924 Summer Olympics. Beautiful Decorative 14K Gold Medal, 29 gr., 1½ x 1½ in., set with a 10 pt. diamond, attached to the original red white & blue presentation ribbon with pin back and housed in the original presentation box. The front of the medal reads: "INTERNATIONAL SPORTING CLUB OF NEW YORK versus GREAT BRITAIN BOXING CONTEST 1921."The medal back is engraved: "MIDDLE WEIGHT (160 lbs.) WON BY H. MALLIN. 17TH JAN." Lot includes a 1¼ x 1 in., heart shaped, commemorative boxing metal charm. The charm features two raised boxers, commemorating "Great Fight / Corbett & Fitzsimmons / Carson City/March 17, 1897." Overall fine.
