Collection of 4 Signed Vintage Original Portraits of Marion Davies. A fine collection of 4 vintage original, double-weight, sepia toned and signed 8" x 10" portraits of Marion Davies. Davies, originally a Ziegfeld Follies star found her way into film and was featured in over 40 productions, most from the silent era and proved herself quite capable especially in comedy. Unfortunately she found herself shoe-horned into dramas as spear headed by her 30+ years mentor and romantic interest, legendary newspaper mogul, William Randolph Hearst where her talents weren't quite up to measure, nevertheless fine. Davies also proved herself quite a career savior for Hearst when his papers began to bleed red by selling well over a million dollars of her jewelry to help him through critical financial challenges. Offered are 4 great portrait taken throughout her career, some in striking and elaborate costumes. But it was her status and her unique relationship to Hearst, and as the legendary hostess of Hearst Castle that made her more than just a filmed entertainment footnote of the 20th century. Photos and signatures in overall quite fine condition with minor evidence of handling.
