Collection of Vintage Military Equipment, Rare 1938 SOM Telemeter. Extremely rare telemter SOM (Societe d'Optique et Mechanique de Haute Precision) Marine Nationale Model G. 1938 BM stamped October 12, 1938. Beautiful piece of range or distance determination in the field. All optics in very good condition with fantastic brass fittings around distance reader and eye piece and appears to have had more than one coat of grey paint in its long history. Original canvas and leather strap. Telemeter measures 37" length 5" wide at ends and weighs 13½ lbs. It comes in its original, waterproof, custom heavy duty steel case 40" x 6" and weighs just over 16 lbs. for a combined weight of 30 pounds, a consideration if shipping overseas. Only a short fragment of original thick leather carrying strap remains A unique and rare artillery range finder of years past.
