Lot 955

1937-D. 3 Legs. PCGS graded MS-64. Lovely rich golden toning spans both sides of the lustrous coin. The surfaces are free of all but tiny signs of handling and the bizarre missing leg is noteworthy, with the lonely hoof sitting on the ground and the thigh of beast above, suspended by balance only. Also on the reverse there is a curious stream of raised die dots beneath the belly of the bison, and his rear legs both have a moth eaten appearance as this famous reverse die had significant issues after it was lapped to remove die clashing. These features are always present on the 3 Legs variety and are diagnostic. Boldly struck. Pop 175; 68 finer (PCGS # 3982) .
Estimated Value $5,000 - 5,500.
