Lot 91

1849 First Restrike Proof-Only Breen 1-B Rarity-6. PCGS graded Proof 62 Brown. Uniform light brown and golden tan. Essentially flawless; void of any spots, stains, or contact marks. The only mark is a tiny struck-through line in the middle of the jawline, and this was caused by a piece of lint pressed between the die and planchet. The fields are smooth and slightly reflective but the mirrors are not deep, which is typical of these restrikes. Most likely lightly cleaned long ago, as were most of the coins in the famous King Farouk Palace Collection. This coin is #7 in Rick Coleman's list of first restrike 1849 proof half cents. Weight 85.5 grains. Comes with an impressive provenance.
Estimated Value $2,500-UP.
