Lot 149

1797 S-143 R5 Stemless Wreath VF20. Sharpness EF40 but there is a small collection of shallow pits in the field left of the lower curls and a few more on the reverse, a few of which contain traces of greenish verdigris. The remainder of the planchet is smooth. The only contact marks are a half dozen hairline scratches in the field before the face. Rather glossy dark reddish steel brown and olive with slightly lighter chocolate brown on the highpoints. Nicely struck MDS, Breen state II, with die clashmarks inside the wreath. Graded EF40 net VF20 and tied for CC#6 honors in the Bland/Breen condition census for this rare variety.
