Lot 1255

T-68 1864 $10 with Historical Inscription. Fr-T-68. This $10 Confederate appears to be nothing special--until the back is examined. There, an inscription in ink reads as follows: "Surrendered by Gen. R.E. Lee at Appomattox Court House, Va. April 9, 1865. A.B. Laurence Chief QrMr AJ USA." While the pedigree chain to a location within the personal possession of General Robert E. Lee is likely impossible to prove, the provenance of similar pieces of other historical artifacts that were identified by this same A.B. Laurence is well established in the Civil War collecting community. This piece comes with a card also signed by Laurence, who was also known to have obtained the Confederate flag that was flying over the Richmond capitol when the Union forces captured the city.
Estimated Value $5,000-UP.
