Lot 118

1794 S-51 R4 F15. Sharpness near VF35 but covered with fine roughness, especially on the reverse where there are areas of shallow pitting and microscopic specks of verdigris. The only other mark is a shallow planchet void on the rim over UNI. The obverse is an attractive glossy chocolate and olive brown with lighter steel brown toning on the highpoints. The reverse is a less attractive but still rather glossy reddish chocolate and darker steel. The strike is uneven, particularly on the reverse where there is obvious weakness along the right edge that severely weakens AMERICA. Overall the grade for the obverse would be an attractive VF30 but the reverse would rate a net VG8 at best. EDS, Breen state I, before any die cracks on the obverse.
Estimated Value $600-UP.
Ex Fred Columbo (Chicago) 9/9/2001-Colonel Steven Ellsworth 2009-John Koebert.
