Lot 115

1794 S-36 R5 VG8+. A "Single Berry left of Bow variety." Sharpness F15 but covered with fine granularity mixed with microscopic pits, strongest at the top of the reverse. The highpoints of the devices are smooth. No verdigris, but there are some rim bruises, mostly on the reverse. The notable ones are opposite the mouth and over the F in OF. The toning is an attractive slightly glossy light olive and steel brown. The date and legends are complete and easily readable although some elements are weakened by the roughness. The Single Berry feature is obvious to the unaided eye. MDS, Breen state II.
Estimated Value $1,000-UP.
Ex McCawley & Grellman Auctions/Superior 2/18/2001:2130-Colonel Steven Ellsworth collection 2009-John Koebert (lot ticket included).
