Lot 1103

1877-S. PCGS graded MS-65. A nice frosty white coin with just a hint of gold toning. The strike is sharp and the surfaces are quite pleasing to examine as they are virtually free of contact marks, as required for this lofty gem grade. Only 29 of these have been certifed at this level and a tiny 8 examples finer! Here is a solid coin that is destined for an advanced type or date collection. Although tremendous numbers of these were struck, most were sent to the orient as intended where they circulated. Some were distributed to banks in San Francisco and Nevada, and apparently not many were saved that can earn the gem grade today. Here is one that will always satisfy its new buyer (PCGS # 7046) .
Estimated Value $8,500 - 9,000.
