Lot 1102

1877. PCGS graded MS-65. Nicely toned with deep russet gold dominating the surfaces with rich aqua blue accenting the devices and giving the coin a three dimensional effect beyond the strike. Incredible preservation for this Philadelphia issue, as the vast majority of those struck ended up overseas in the Orient. This one clearly did not, as it was carefully saved since the day it was struck. A number, although small, of 1877 Trade dollars were released domestically, and this coin was undoubtedly one of those saved for these shores. Today it stands tall as one of the absolute finest of those certified, and with such elegant toning will undoubtedly bring a strong price. Pop 10; 2 finer in 66. (PCGS # 7044) .
Estimated Value $12,000 - 13,000.
