Sale 87

Lot 1055

1874. Arrows. PCGS graded Proof 65. Nicely toned on both sides with classic russet gold hues and gunmetal gray. The strike is bold as expected for a proof coin but what sets this one apart is the exceptional preservation of the surfaces. Close scrutiny finds no handling marks or detractions in the surfaces or hidden on the devices. This is imporant becase not only is this a scarce date with only 750 minted but the Arrows style were struck only in 1873 and 1874 on this precise type. Thus collectors assembing a type collection have to obtain one of these elusive Arrows coins along with the normal date collectors as well. Hence the addtional pressure keeps demand high, especially when a lovely Gem like this appears on the market! Pop 14; 10 finer, 1 in 65+, 5 in 66, 4 in 67 (PCGS # 6435) .
Estimated Value $7,000 - 8,000.
