Lot 103

1793 S-1 R4 Chain AMERI. PCGS graded Good-6. Glossy chocolate brown and steel with hints of dark bluish steel overtone on the obverse. The surfaces are smooth, especially for a Chain Cent, but there are some minor imperfections including several microscopic pits and a couple thin nicks, none distracting. The date is not strong (which is typical of this obverse die) but it remains readable and the legends are complete. The reverse is nearly choice. MDS, Breen state III, with a raised area at the top of the U in UNITED but no die cracks. A quite decent example of this very popular "Redbook" type. Our grade is VG8. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label.
Estimated Value $6,000-UP.
