Louis XVI (1754-1793) King of France from 1774 until the monarchy was abolished by the French Legislative Assembly on September 21, 1792. He was found guilty of high treason, and executed by guillotine on January 21, 1793. His death brought an end to more than a thousand years of continuous French monarchy. Document signed ("Louis") as King, on paper, 3 pages of a bifolium, 14¼ x 9½ in., Versailles, December 24, 1782. Being a financial report to the Royal Finance Council, approved by Louis. Strong large signature.
