Lot 40

1795 C-5b R4 No Pole, Thick Planchet G6+. Slightly sharper but there is microscopic roughness in the fields and protected areas, mostly on the right side of the obverse. No verdigris, and the only marks are a very light rim bruise under the 5 in the date and a small rim bruise between the D & S on the reverse. The date is weak (as usual on the thick planchet strikes) but it is easily readable. Struck on a thick planchet cut from large cent stock. The weight is 113.7 grains (versus the standard of 84.0 grains), and the planchet is slightly egg-shaped (which is often seen on the thick planchet strikes).
Estimated Value $350-UP.
Ex Jim McGuigan.
