Lot 1819

1809, 9 over 8. NGC graded MS-63+. Frosty and boldly struck, untoned. Scarce as an overdate and one of the most popular and highly collectible series of early gold coins. These half eagles served as the backbone of our monetary system in their era, and today offer numismatists a glimpse into the elegance of our early federal coinage. Designed by mint engraver John Reich, these early half eagles have been sought after by generations of numismatists. Once long look and any modern collector will immediatly understand why. Only 33,875 struck. Pop 1; 27 finer, 18 in 64, 9 in 65.
Estimated Value $17,000 - 18,000.
