Lot 172

1794 S-18b R4 Head of 1793, Edge of 1794 VG8. Slightly sharper but there is a faint scuff of horizontal hairline scratches covering the lower two-thirds of the portrait, a rim bruise at the O in OF, and a couple minor rim nicks. Otherwise this cent is quite nice, especially for a Head of 1793 type. Attractive glossy medium chocolate brown with lighter steel brown toning on the highpoints. The hairlines on the portrait are hidden in the glossy toning and the eye appeal of this cent is quite nice for the grade. EDS, Breen state III, before any visible swelling in the field under the cap. The date and legends are all easily readable and the edge lettering is strong.
Estimated Value $1,500-UP.
Ex Stack's 9/7/2005:452-Chris McCawley 4/2/2011-William R. Eckberg.

Realized $3,643
