Lot 1683

1807. PCGS graded EF-40. A hint of light tone. Only 6,812 struck, with about 250 to 350 examples estimated to have survived. This is the final year of the Capped Bust right quarter eagle, a series that is known for tiny mintages and dismal survival rates. The reverse die continued in use to strike dimes, being virtually the same diameter and design as this quarter eagle, a rare case of inter-denominational die sharing at the Philadelphia Mint (this was only done on the Draped Bust dimes and these Capped Bust quarter eagles so far as is known today). High quality type or date representatives like this are always in strong collector demand (PCGS # 7656) .
Estimated Value $9,000 - 10,000.
