Lot 1289

1854-O. Arrows. PCGS graded MS-66 PQ. CAC Approved. Lovely light blue toning at the rims, dusky silver-gray to the centers. The strike is bold throughout and this is a short-lived type coin as well with the Arrows at the date, these signifying the reduction in the silver content of the planchets used starting in early 1853, as the value of the silver had risen to a point that a profit could be made from melting down old tenor silver coins (from the first month or so of 1853 and prior--without the Arrows at the date). Many of these earlier coins did not survive this era as they were melted for the profit. This glorious gem did and stands tall as one of the most technically outstanding coins of this date and mint. Add in the attractive toning and bold strike, and you have a coin worthy of a record bid. Pop 11; 3 finer, 1 in 66+, 2 in 67. (PCGS # 6280) .
Estimated Value $16,000 - 18,000.

Realized $25,850
