Lot 1280

1837. NGC graded MS-65. Frosty and mostly white with a dash of russet-gold and iridescence around the obverse and reverse rims. Boldly struck, particularly so on Liberty's curls and the eagle's wing feathers. This issue was struck on the still new (introduced in 1836) steam driven coining press. Decidedly few of these early half dollars survive at the gem level, and most seen fall well short of the quality, appeal and luster of this example. Pop 41; 17 finer at NGC.
Estimated Value $12,000 - 13,000.

Realized $13,513
