Lot 1194

1856. PCGS graded Proof 65. Boldly struck with nice rainbow toning that darkens at the periphery, brighter at the centers. The reverse die suffered a minor injury that extends up and below from the right wing of the eagle, below AM of AMERICA. All proofs of this date exhibit this feature, which was carefully polished out leaving the field somewhat uneven. This particular coin is the main example posted on CoinFacts for this date. An extremely rare early Proof issue. Only 30 examples were believed struck, possibly a few more. Pop 3; none finer at PCGS. (PCGS # 5552) .
Estimated Value $13,000 - 14,000.

Realized $11,750
