Lot 1190

1838. NGC graded MS-65. A frosty white gem. This is the first year the Gobrecht design was launched on the quarter dollar denomination, in fact the old style Capped Bust design was used for several months of 1838 while this new design was being made ready for production. Here is a glorious gem that offers satin luster throughout and a solid strike. The surfaces are free of distracting marks, and close examination finds little more than a couple of shallow ticks in the fields. Scarce and wholesome. Pop 5; 5 finer, 3 in 66, 1 in 66+, 1 in 67.
Estimated Value $18,000 - 19,000.

Realized $20,563
