Lot 1080

1937-D. 3 Legs. NGC graded MS-65. An outstanding boldly struck gem with lovely reddish-golden toning on both sides. Probably the most popular 20th century mint error and always in demand. The reverse die clashed during regular coinage, and the reverse die was lapped to remove evidence of die clashing, in the process, the foreleg of the bison was removed as well, leaving behind his shoulder and hoof. Furthermore the rear legs were also affected, and the back leg especially has a moth eaten appearance that is unique to this variety. Gems are quite scarce and difficulat to come by for collectors. Here is a solid opportunity for the specialist.Pop 58; 24 finer at NGC.
Estimated Value $17,000 - 18,000.
