Lot 3000

Celtic, Northwest Gaul. Gold 1/4 Stater (2.04 g), 3rd-Early 2nd Centuries BC. Bearded head right. Reverse: Trumpeter atop horse right, blowing carnyx; below, candelabra-shaped figure kneeling with arms raised. Delestrée & Tache class V, series 3 DT 24, var. 4; Scheers series 3 classe III, var. b, fig.32. Obverse struck from a slightly worn die. Very Fine / Superb Extremely Fine.

There are only three specimens cited in Delestrée & Tache - the one illustrated, another in private collection, and a third in Crédit de la Bourse X, 1990, lot 31, making this likely the fourth known specimen.
