1870 Dollar Round Liberty BG-1205 High Rarity 4. PCGS graded AU-55. A lightly circulated example of this popular round dollar, the product of "Unknown Maker C" as listed by Breen and Gillio. This unknown producer of round and octagonal quarters, halves, and dollars was believed to have been located in San Francisco. The present example is one of the so-called "Goofy Heads" from this manufacturer and made of gold-plated silver. Bold details reside lightly hairlined and lightly abraded gilt fields. An important offering for the California fractional gold collector. Pop 7; 24 finer (PCGS # 10950) .
