1870-S. NGC graded AU Details, Improperly Cleaned. The eagles struck at San Francisco in 1870 circulated widely, this despite a very limited mintage of just 8,000 pieces. The result is that the issue is very scarce in today's market. This AU specimen features surfaces that have been cleaned at one time. As a result, one can see myriad hairlines and a somewhat dull finish. The overall definition remains suitably bold despite the presence of light wear, and none of the scattered abrasions are worthy of individual attention (PCGS # 8659) .
