Lot 172

1811 C-2 R3 VF25+. Attractive glossy medium chocolate and olive brown. The surfaces are smooth and the eye appeal of this piece is excellent. Very close to VF30. The only marks are a small spot of darker toning in the field right of star 4 and a shallow rim bruise over the M in AMERICA. LDS, Manley state 3.0, with clear die clashmarks between the last 1 in the date and the curls above. A bit softly struck on the left edges of both sides, as always on this variety, thanks to non-parallel die faces. A very nice example of this tough date.
Estimated Value $3,000-UP.
Ex Mike Demling (acquired by him on 4/23/1994).
