Lot 170

1811 C-1 R6 (with the 4-Star Cud) VF20. Sharpness VF35 but there are numerous fine scratches on the obverse, mostly on the portrait, a rim nick under star 11, and shallow scrapes around HALF CENT. The toning is an attractive glossy medium chocolate brown and the naked-eye appeal of this piece is excellent. Rare TDS, Manley state 5.0, with a large, strong cud break connecting stars 1-4 to the rim. The opposing area at TED-S is depressed and weak thanks to the cud, as always in this die state. There was not enough planchet metal to fill out the designs opposite the deep cud.
Estimated Value $2,000-UP.
