. Award Medal for Service during the Coronation, 1801. Bronze. 51 mm. By I. Shilov. Novodel, 1814. Novodels are an intriguing peculiarity of Russian numismatics. But while coin novodels are widely known and well written about, novodels of Award Medals are far less known and little researched. In the 19th century, the mint, as it did with coins, would restrike examples of very rare, difficult to obtain Award Medals for museums, official institutions, and advanced collectors. We are pleased to be able to offer a specialized collection of Novodel Award Medals below. They not only offer a piece of history, but a linear link to our numismatic counterparts of the past. Award Medal for Service during the Coronation, 1801. Bronze. 51 mm. By I. Shilov. Novodel, 1814. Bit H498 (R2). Bare Alexander I head r., signed by Shilov on truncation, date "1814" below / Three-line legend, date legend on plaque below. Deep silvery-gray tone with good lustre Condition: About uncirculated.
Estimated Value $1,000-UP.
