Pre-Columbian Zoomorphic Pottery Vessel, Possibly Chavin - circa 100 B.C. This attractive and important vessel has zoomorphic handles depicting dogs with what are possibly turtle shells. In Meso-American mythology, the gods would sometimes play tricks on animals with this animal resulting in its hybrid form found on this vessel. In excellent condition, the face is painted with white paint and has white deities painted around the upper central region above a white band on the burnished orange finished pot. Height:12".
