Farnam, Henry (1803-1883) American philanthropist and railroad president. In 1850 he partnered with Joseph E. Sheffield to build the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad. In 1854 he became that railroad's president, an office he held until his retirement in 1863. Document signed as president of the railroad, being an unissued stock certificate for the Chicago Rock Island Rail Road Company, Certificate No, 690, c. 1854, 5 x 8", a small vignette of a passenger train at top center margin. Small cancellation holes barely touch the signature. Overall very good.
