Typed letter signed, 1p, on personal letterhead, 10¼ x 7", Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, Aug. 14, 1964. To Sister Mary Linus of San Luis Rey Academy in California. In part, "…Because of my own keen interest in the youth of America it is both a privilege and a pleasure to learn of your efforts to inspire your students with an understanding and awareness of our American heritage. May they accept with gratitude the freedom and equality inherent in our national life and be challenged to fulfill these promises for all Americans of every race and creed. May they also endeavor to protect and preserve our way of life for the generations yet unborn…." An important statement on civil rights by Ike, the same year that the Civil Rights Act was signed. Glue remnants on verso show through, most of which could be matted out.
