Lot 710

1817 N-7 R7 (without Mouse) VG7. Sharpness VF30 but there is shallow verdigris scattered over the obverse and the reverse is dull from moderate granularity. In addition there is a significant dig in the center of the reverse. The obverse is a slightly glossy mix of chocolate and olive brown with lighter steel brown toning on the highpoints; the reverse is dull reddish chocolate brown. Not the most attractive large cent, but the date and legends are complete and easily readable. Extremely rare EDS, before the large "Mouse" break forms on the top of the head. Only a half dozen or so are known in this die state, and the finest of the group grades only VF20.
Estimated Value $1,000-UP.
Discovered by Henry T. Hettger.
