Roman Limestone, ca. 3rd-5th Century, Christian Chi-Rho Oil Lamp Mold. A very rare and early Roman Period Christian lamp mold with the earliest form of a Christian cross, the "Chi-Rho" being the first two letters X and P of the Greek word for "Christ."
The Roman Emperor Constantine I (also called "The Great") became the first Christian leader when he had a vision "that under this Chi-Rho" sign he would conquer his adversaries, which he ordered painted on the shields and flags of his armies before the battle at the Milvian Bridge.
