A large Desk Stamp, Finely Carved in Virtually Flawless Quartz Crystal. Probably German, c. 1885-1915. This splendidly realized seal in clean, optical grade quartz. Stamp is oval in section, with think plate for the engraved seal, a stalk with moldings, and a tapered and faceted handle. The seal engraved with a ducal crest (crowned helmet of a knight), above quartered shield with slanding bars and two scenes of three mountains. The motto beneath: "Nec Aspeera Terrent." Perhaps a display piece or a commission never picked up, the stamp absolutely pristine and without wear. A fabulous bibelot from a more civilized era! Height: 3½". Estimated Value $400 - 500

From Goldberg's Manuscript & Collectibles Sale, Oct. 20, 2007, lot 791. Realized $805.00.
