Monroe, James (1758-1831) 5th President of the United States (1817-1825). Partly-printed document signed as President, vellum, one page, 13½ x 10 in., Washington, Jan. 3, 1818. Granting 150 acres in the Territory of Illinois to Ephraim Brown, who had been a sergeant in the 34th Regiment of Infantry. Countersigned by Land Commissioner Josiah Meigs. Seal is intact at lower left; age yellowing and wear to vellum. Manuscript portion is light but Monroe's signature is quite bold. Estimated Value $400 - 600
