Schweitzer, Albert (1875-1965) Alsatian theologian, internationally-renowned organist, philosopher, and medical missionary; winner of the 1953 Nobel Peace Prize. Holograph envelope addressed in Dr. Schweitzer's hand to Alice Ehlers in Los Angeles and signed ("A. Schweitzer") in the holograph return address on the verso, from Lambaréné, French Equatorial Africa (now Gabon). Envelope is postmarked Dec. 1942 and was opened by censors. Schweitzer established the Albert Schweitzer Hospital in Lambaréné in 1913 and spent much of his life there. With an 8x10 in. print of Dr. Schweitzer. Estimated Value $150 - 200
