[Four Explorers] Ahmundsen, Stefansson, Hillary, and Norgay. Roald Ahmundsen (1872-1928) Norwegian explorer who discovered the South Pole and the first undisputed expedition leader to reach the North Pole; he disappeared on a rescue mission. Large, bold pencil signature on a toned 6 x 4 in. album page; Dec 16-1925 is penciled in another hand at lower right. Vilhjalmur Stefansson (1879-1962) Canadian Arctic explorer and ethnologist. Signature on a 5¾ x 5½ in. toned album page with a small newspaper picture attached. Sir Edmund Hillary (1919-2008) New Zealand mountaineer, explorer and philanthropist; on May 29, 1953, he and his Nepalese Sherpa, mountaineer Tenzing Norgay (1914-1986) became the first climbers confirmed as having reached the summit of Mount Everest. Signatures of both men on a 3½ x 2¼ in. piece of ruled paper. Estimated Value $200 - 250
