"Dear Madame, We'll do our best for your protegé, but just between us, that depends more on him than on me…." (2) autograph letter signed, one page, 5½ x 8½ in., Paris, July 21, 1848, with red wax seal remnant. To an unidentified correspondent: "I have always been satisfied with Alexis' service…I recommend him heartily…He has always given me proofs of his complete loyalty, probity and absence of self-interest… (3) autograph document signed to the editor of a newspaper, 7½ x 2 in., n.p., n.d.
